Andreas Kurz is a 35 year old professional photographer born and raised in Montreal. His interest for the arts blossomed at a young age, especially when he started taking painting classes at an art school in Beaconsfield, Montreal. He started becoming passionate about photography approximately twelve years ago and joined the Professional Photography Program at Dawson College in the spring of 2011-2014. Since then Andreas has had various photo gigs as a portrait and event photographer. He is hoping to eventually further his career in photography.
Andreas would describe his photography as being very colourful and slightly saturated while also having a gritty texture to them. As a photographer he also tries to capture the emotion, essence and lighting of the environment especially when shooting a musical event or festival. Andreas wants the viewers to feel like they were there watching and listening to the musicians themselves. In his portraits he tries to capture as much detail in the face as possible by diluting the effect of the sometimes harsh shadows he must deal with.
One of Andreas' grandmothers was a photography student at the famous Bauhaus School in Berlin, Germany. Another ancestor was the royal photographer in Bavaria.
Some of the photographers he admires and look up to the most are Annie Leibovitz and Yusuf Karsh the renowned portrait photographers. As well as Elliott Landy a concert photographer who was most famous for photographing the Woodstock festival in the late 60s and Herb Ritts who is well known for depicting human bodies as sometimes abstract romanesque sculptures.
