CAPIC VANCOUVER – Peer Portfolio Review

19/09/2017 By Pierre St-Onge

CAPIC VANCOUVER – Peer Portfolio Review

This year CAPIC is proud to introduce a new event, our Peer Portfolio Review. This will be an opportunity to meet other photographers and image creators and receive feedback about your book in preparation for the “speed dating” Portfolio Review event with agency art directors and other art buyers, that will be returning this winter!

This new Peer Review event, happening October 2nd, will see participants broken into small groups where more time will be allowed to go through the portfolio in detail, and both receive feedback for your work, and of course offer it to the others.  Each group will be guided by an established photographer or image creator, but all participants will be encouraged to offer constructive criticism.  If you don’t quite have a printed portfolio together yet, feel free to bring a series of separate prints, or an iPad portfolio.

WHERE: Stretch Yoga, 180 E Pender Street.

WHEN: Doors open at 7:00pm.  Event runs 7:30pm – 9:30pm, with time for an after-event social at the same location from 9:30pm – 10:30pm.

Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase before and after the event… but are to be kept away from the portfolios!!

Buy tickets on eventbrite: https://capic-peer-portfolio-review.eventbrite.ca

10$ for CAPIC members
$25 for non-members.

Also, a reminder that becoming a CAPIC member will save you $15 here and at least $100 on the upcoming Portfolio Review event.

CAPIC Honorary Member Pat LaCriox’s Toronto Jazz Treasures

26/06/2017 By Pierre St-Onge

CAPIC Honorary Member Pat LaCriox’s Toronto Jazz Treasures

Well, it took us three and a half years but Toronto Jazz Treasures is now printed and available.

The book was the brainchild of my late wife Naomi Patricia. She conceived it, named it and brought it to life. Ted O’Reilly, Gerald George, who designed and produced the book and I, Pat LaCroix ,as well as all the wonderful people who donated their time and talents to the project are very proud of the book.

It is a celebration of the fantastic Jazz musicians who live, perform and teach the beautiful art of Jazz music in Toronto.  The book consists of 100 black and white portraits I made of these musicians and the histories of their careers, beautifully written by Ted O’Reilly. This collection just scratched the surface of the huge number of Toronto’s world class Jazz players but we had to cut it off at a manageable number.

The total cost of printing the book was donated by several companies and individuals and everyone who worked on the book worked pro bono.

Thanks to these generous people, all the sales of the book will be donated to two charities.  They are The Ken Page Memorial Trust a charity in aid of musicians, and Neshama a new palliative care hospice being started by Dr. Sandy Buchman.

The book can be purchased online for $60 dollars and $15 delivery fee.

Go to the attached link to our website and give it a look.

CAPIC Double  Vision 2017

1st Place: Simon Dupuis & Allison Cordner

dv1

Last month, the Toronto Chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators (CAPIC) mounted their annual Double Vision exhibition and competition at The Papermill Gallery at Todmorden Mills, in Toronto.

The show featured works by image creators who had been paired at random and tasked with creating portraits of one another, all the while using their respective mediums. The participating artists took on this challenge with great enthusiasm and creativity. The result was a dynamic exhibition featuring a wide rage of collaborative images, all pushing the boundaries of the project.

CAPIC is delighted to present the final winners of Double Vision 2017! The pairs were voted on by a panel of jurors made up of art industry professionals and announced on the opening night of the exhibition.

First place went to illustrator Simon Dupuis and photographer Allison Cordner from Montreal. Second place was awarded to photographer John Currid and illustrator Joe Borges. Photographer Linda Marie Stella and Illustrator Sue Upton claimed juried third place and also took home the popular vote award, as selected by guests who attended the opening night event.
