Canada Marshlands
LIGHT/WEIGHT GROUP EXHIBIT
ARTA Gallery, Distillery District, Toronto

Photographer Philip Jessup will exhibit his first instalment of images from his Canada Marshland Project, a survey of significant swamps, marshes, and bogs across Canada imperiled by climate change and land development. The exhibit at Arta Gallery in Toronto, May 2 – 15, 2019, will feature photos of Minesing Wetlands in the LIGHT/WEIGHT group exhibit during the Sccotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. Nestled among family farms close to Barrie, Ontario, Minesing covers 15,000 acres and is designated by the RAMSAR Convention a Wetland of International Importance. In spring, melting snow swells the Nottawasaga and Mad Rivers forming a seasonal swamp of majestic water-tolerant silver maples that attracts canoeists and kayakers. Minesing supports an extremely high biodiversity and is home to hundreds of plant and animal species, including 225 bird species. Unpredictable variations in rainfall have placed significant stresses on deciduous and coniferous swamp forests. Since 1953, Minesing has lost 37% of its forest cover largely due to a more variable climate, which is a threat to this breathtaking swamp.

Les pièces soumises au concours seront jugé par 6 professionnels de la communauté canadienne de photographes et d’illlustrateurs.
Les gagnant profiterons d’une visibilité nationale et se partagerons
un premier prix de 300$, un second prix de 200$ et un troisième prix de 150$.
Coûts par pièce soumise : 20$ + taxes
Les règlements du concours Rodéo 11 de la CAPIC
Ce concours s’adresse aux étudiants en art visuel.
Parmi toutes les inscriptions enregistrées pour ce concours, un nombre maximum de 26 sera accepté.
Une « inscription acceptée » constitue une « inscription gagnante ».
Une « inscription » est constituée d’une seule image.
Les membres étudiants peuvent s’inscrire aussi souvent qu’ils le désirent. Toutefois, un nombre maximum de trois « images gagnantes » peut être décerné à chaque membre.
Six prix en argent seront remis, soit trois (1er, 2e et 3e prix) dans chaque catégorie (photographie et illustration).
Une fois qu’ils ou elles seront annoncées, les dix finalistes dans chaque catégorie obtiendront une adhésion à la CAPIC à titre de membre talent émergent.
Tous les étudiants qui s’inscriront recevront gratuitement une adhesion à la CAPIC à titre de member étudiant.

CAPIC is pleased to announce it’s 11th annual contest for student photographers and illustrators. This contest is an opportunity to expose the wealth of unique talent within student across Canada.
The contest will be judged by six professionals from the Canadian illustration and photographic community.
Winners gain national visibility, in addition to the first prize of $300, second prize of $200 and the third prize of $150
An entry fee of $20 (plus GST/HST) will be charged for each entry.
CAPIC Rodeo 11 Contest Rules
This contest is open to all post-secondary visual arts students.
There is a maximum of 26 entries accepted for this contest from all submitted entries.
“Acceptance” constitutes “winning”
One “entry” consists of a single image.
Students can enter as many times as they like but are limited to a maximum of three “wins” per member.
There are six cash prizes in total: First, Second, & Third for Photography, and First, Second, & Third for Illustration.
All students who enter will receive a free one-year Student CAPIC membership.
Top 10 finalists in each category receive a free one-year Emerging Talent CAPIC Membership.
